Lighting the home can be expensive in terms of energy used, at CubeRoot- Energy we know the bulbs which are the most efficient in terms of energy usage to light output. For example Kitchen ceiling lights can be of the GU10 style of bulb in Halogen using 50 watts etc or LED technology using 4 watts.
So if the Kitchen ceiling has 10 lamps and are run for 3 hours a day, the Halogen bulbs will use 547kWh/year, probably costing around £82 for the year. Whereas the LED units will use 43kWh/year and cost £6.50. Although the LED bulbs are more expensive they will be paid for in under a year.
